As I've said in this blog for a looooonnnggg time Thailand could be SO much better. It's just failed to get a grip on the important issues, and it's here that the politics of face, the hierarchical nature of Thai society and the xenophobic attitudes has really kept Thailand from realizing its true potential - it's so sad. Here's a brief summary of the situation written up in the FT - a bit lacking in details perhaps, but I agree with the sentiment of disappointment. Where does Thailand go from here? Well, unfortunately it looks like it will be more of the same.
Here's another article that's quite interesting - Retiring on $500 a month is an interesting read that takes a look at retiring in Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand. The article is very well written and has a ton of useful info. Check out part one here.
